Abstract

This document details Mauritius' well-structured and holistic approach to TVET enhancement. It emphasizes the country’s commitment to promoting TVET as pivotal to its economic development and underscores an important policy direction to address the need for skilled manpower in existing and emerging economic sectors. The document notes that the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) is the main service provider for TVET trainers and entrepreneurs.

The document outlines the government's efforts in ensuring that TVET trainers are highly qualified and meet global standards. Some of the strategies employed include selecting high academic performers and ensuring that training programs are both technically and theoretically sound. It also shows how continuously revising curricula has been pivotal in maintaining standards. Another strategy is the well-coordinated public-private and non-governmental partnerships that have provided diversity and enhanced quality. A variety of short courses are available for entrepreneurs. This comprehensive and systematic approach has guaranteed a pool of skilled TVET workforce.

The document concludes by highlighting the significance of regional collaboration, noting the role of Mauritius in sharing best practices with other countries by contributing to the peer learning engagements by the ADEA Inter-Country Quality Node on Technical and Vocational Skills Development (ICQN-TVSD).
