Privacy Policy

The ADEA Knowledge and Learning Hub (the “we”, or “us”) is committed to transparency and protection of people’s online privacy.

This privacy policy sets forth the standards we will follow with regard to information collected at https://knowledgehub.adeanet.org and other related sites controlled by ADEA (together, the “Website”).

When users use this Website, they are using a service provided by ADEA and therefore agree to be bound by this privacy policy. This policy addresses only activities connected with ADEA’s servers. Other sites, including those that we link to and third-party sites or services that ADEA co-brands, may have their own policies, which ADEA does not control and are not addressed or controlled by this privacy policy.

ADEA collects information about users of the Website (“users”) in order to process grant applications and provide secure and personalized services.

The following list includes the two types of information ADEA collects.

Personal information

“Personal information” is information that would allow someone to identify or contact users, including, for example, users’ names, organizations, addresses, and email addresses. Personal information is collected when users apply for membership to the Website; sign up as subscribers to electronic information services; make changes to their subscriber profile information; or send messages, forms, or other information to ADEA or through the Website. When users subscribe to the Website, ADEA asks for personal information, such as email addresses, to allow ADEA to create users’ accounts, respond to users’ questions, or contact users regarding their accounts.

ADEA will not disclose users’ personal information to third parties without users’ permission. ADEA does not sell users’ email addresses or other personal information to marketers.

We may use or disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on us or the Website; (b) protect and defend our rights or property, the Website, or our users; and (c) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of us, our affiliates, our agents, or the users of the Website or the public.

Users may limit the collection and use of different elements of their personal information by not participating in those activities in which ADEA collects personal information. Users may choose to discontinue the collection, use, and disclosure of their personal information by using the Website without registering or by discontinuing use of the Website.

Non-personally identifiable information

“Non-personally identifiable information” is anonymous information about users that does not include users’ names or contact information (examples include IP addresses, browser types, and access times). ADEA may use this information to customize its Website for users and may not include or refer to personal information, such as users’ email addresses, when using this type of data.

ADEA may disclose non-personally identifiable information about its users.

Security Procedures

We occasionally use independent contractors and third-party agents, affiliates, and partners to perform functions such as marketing, analytics, providing customer service, etc., on our behalf. These entities have access to the personal information needed to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of any Personal Information collected from the Website. They are also restricted from using, selling, distributing this data other than to provide services to ADEA.

Assumption of risk

ADEA strives to protect the transmission and storage of any information submitted by visitors to the Website. But no transmission and storage of data is completely secure, and submissions are at your sole risk.

ADEA shall not be liable under any circumstances for damages resulting from use of information collected from visitors to the Website.

Cookies

The Website uses a standard technology called “cookies.” Cookies are small pieces of information stored on a User’s hard drive and not on the Website. Cookies allow Users to log in without entering Users’ log in information each time Users visit the Website. Cookies help us understand how subscribers use the Website, which allows us to continually improve the Website. Users may not be able to use the Website if they disable cookies. For more information on cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information provided by the Interactive Advertising Bureau at www.allaboutcookies.org.

Like some websites, we may use web beacons or flash cookies. A web beacon or flash cookie (also known as an “action tag” “tracer tag,” or “single-pixel GIF”) is an invisible graphic on a web page or e-mail newsletter that is programmed to collect non-personally identifiable information about your use of a given website or newsletter, e.g., whether you opened the e-mail. Like cookies, web beacons allow ADEA and its technology providers to summarize overall usage patterns for our analysis. We do not share or provide personally identifiable information we may collect through such web beacons, such as names or e-mail addresses, without your express permission.

Notification of changes

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time and continued use of the Website following any changes will mean you accept those changes. However, if ADEA decides to use Users’ Personal Information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection, ADEA shall attempt to notify Users via email. ADEA may also email Users who have opted to receive communications from ADEA, notifying them of changes to this policy.
