The ADEA Triennale 2017, themed "Revitalizing education towards the 2030 Global Agenda and the 2063 African Agenda," prioritized quality education and lifelong learning as foundational pillars for sustainable development across the continent. The Triennale is pivotal in enabling stakeholders in the education ecosystem in Africa to appreciate and deliberate on the status of education.
This synthesis on lifelong learning and sustainable development presents a wide range of evidence-based case studies, country and regional experiences and good replicable or adaptable practices that can enable Africa to tackle the challenges constraining the quality of its education provision and delivery. For example, on issues of vulnerability, FAWE and Burundi shared their transformative approaches, the ADEA Working Group on Non-Formal Education also provided insights on the use of ICT to enhance quality education, and Zambia showcased its experience in promoting inclusion.
The paper recommends the need to develop equity and inclusion-related indicators for monitoring quality of education for all, enhance the relevance of technical education, integrate good governance and peace in education, enhance education funding, improve the quality and social welfare of teachers, and reform the Koranic system to meet basic education standards.
