Abstract

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) held its Triennale from March 14-17, 2017, in Dakar, Senegal, focusing on the theme “Revitalizing Education Towards the 2030 Global Agenda and Africa’s 2063 Agenda: The Broader HOW.” The event tackled four key sub-themes: lifelong learning for sustainable development, advancing science, mathematics, and ICT, promoting African cultural renaissance and pan-African ideals, and fostering peace and global citizenship through education.

This general synthesis report distills key issues, success stories and best practices. The lessons learned from the knowledge and experience sharing provide a framework to guide countries, supported by ADEA and other stakeholders, in implementing the recommendations from the Triennale.

The framework is in the form of a roadmap articulating the successful factors and conditions necessary for the implementation, taking cognizance of specific country contexts. It is anchored in the vision of “transformation” that promotes political leadership and commitment, equitable and prioritized financing, and strong technical and institutional capacities. These should drive the implementation of the five priority areas and their corresponding action strategies outlined in this general synthesis report. The priorities include building a new African school system, revolutionizing skills, and learning to live freely and in peace, together.
