This concept note provides a chronological account of the preparation for this first sub-theme of the ADEA 2017 on lifelong learning for sustainable development, under the coordination of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) and in partnership with ADEA and other relevant stakeholders.
The contents fed into the main theme, "Revitalizing Education Towards the 2030 Global Agenda and the 2063 African Agenda”. The Triennale is one of the seminal forums in Africa that facilitates policy dialogue and knowledge sharing on education in Africa.
The paper shows how FAWE worked with various ADEA Inter-Country Quality Nodes (ICQNs) and Working Groups (WGs) to collect relevant data. More than 40 contributions were received and presented at the sub-regional consultative meeting for this sub-theme, held in Nairobi in August 2016.
The concept demonstrates how the background effort was rooted in the UN Summit's adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. The Continental Education Strategy for Africa 2016-2025 (CESA 16-25) and Agenda 2063 further emphasized education's role in Africa's development. Thus, the coordination process aimed to consolidate inputs from various groups and countries on their status and best practices and, ultimately, raise awareness about SDG 4 and CESA 16-25 targets in Africa.
