The ADEA Knowledge Digest – August 2026 brings together evidence, trends, lessons learned, knowledge products and experiences to support learning, policy and practice in education and skills development across Africa. Framed around the principle that “knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied,” the edition encourages readers to explore, reflect on and apply knowledge generated through ADEA’s work and the landscape.

A focus is the transition from commitments to results in foundational learning. The Digest highlights FLEX knowledge products: the FLEX2024 Stocktaking Report, which reviews progress against the five Kigali commitments and the six foundational learning recommendations of the 2025 ADEA Triennale, and the FLEX2026 Report, which captures evidence, experiences, lessons and priorities from the Africa Foundational Learning Exchange held in Malawi in July 2026. Together, these products highlight progress while underscoring the challenge of translating policy ambition into implementation at scale.

The edition presents lessons from South Africa’s development of language-specific early-grade reading benchmarks across its 11 languages, offering insights for strengthening assessment systems. Rwanda’s education reform experience illustrates the importance of sustained political commitment, institutional coordination, teacher development, evidence and assessment in moving from reform commitments to implementation. The Digest concludes by directing readers to ADEA’s e-Library, country profiles and resources.
