This 2014 report evaluates progress of education in the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) region. The ADEA Working Group on Education Management and Policy Support (WGEMPS) and the AMU Secretariat for the Conference of Ministers of Education of the African Union (COMEDAF).

The report analyzes progress and challenges in implementing the Plan of Action for the Second Decade of Education for Africa (2006-2015) in the region, focusing on the eight priority areas of gender and culture, EMIS, teacher development, higher education, TVET, curriculum and teaching materials, quality management, and ECD.

Whilst the report highlights advancements in gender parity, particularly in girls' education, showcases successful partnerships in addressing cross-cutting issues like HIV/AIDS, and provision of open and distance learning, it also notes challenges such as lack of quality data, resource mobilization issues, and minimal support to regional economic communities.

In conclusion, the report underscores the importance of mainstreaming human rights and ensuring universal access to education, enhancing provision of quality data for informed decision-making, partnering with actors such as UNESCO’s Institute for Statistics (UIS)and other ADEA working groups and task forces to support monitoring and facilitation of educational transformation, promoting open exchanges among African education stakeholders, and improved coordination and resource allocation.
